State_Masters _2025_Logo_700

The 2025 ILCA NSW & ACT Masters is coming up 1-2 February at South Lake Macquarie ASC at Sunshine on Lake Macquarie.

This is one of our favourite venues with a great friendly club, heaps of rigging area and terrific uncrowded sailing waters. At this time of year sailing conditions on the lake are excellent.

We have always had well over 100 boats competing in the several times that we have run our State Masters at South Lakes.

The Notice of Race is Here.

Entries can be placed online Here  or at the club up until 11.30am on Saturday 1 February.

ILCA Masters Golf Tournament 31 January

golfsailorThe State Masters Golf Tournament returns this season in the new hands of Northbridge SC’s Peter Doyle.

Peter has gone a little upmarket and booked the beautiful Kooindah Waters Golf Club in Wyong for Friday 31 January 2025. So plan your trip to South Lake Macquarie with a stopover around midday for a light lunch and team selection before a 1:00pm first tee time.

It might sound grand to play in a Masters Golf Tournament but for ours  you don’t have to be a good golfer, just come for fun. It will be an Ambrose style format. Cost will be $100 per head with cart.

Please let Peter know if you are a likely starter by text (0413 872 787) or email (peterdoylenorthbridge@gmail.com).

State Championships GRSC Results

States_2024_GRSC_Logo_750

78 sailors enjoyed the sailing and two day workout at the State Championships at Georges River Sailing Club over the weekend 16-17 November.

On both days there were good NE 13-20 knot breezes which have been somewhat absent this season. On Sunday the forecast was for over 30 knots NE with a maximum runout tide in the afternoon so it was wisely decided to make a 0900 start to the proceedings.

The small but very competitive ILCA 7  fleet was lead by Campbell Patton DBSC/RSYS/RBYC by a single point from Daniel Costandi GRSC/DBSC. Julian Taylor DBSC/WSC was third and first Under 21.

The ILCA 6s saw some fabulous sailing and close competition. At the end of the day it was Mara Stransky RQYS 2021 Australian Olympic representative who prevailed posting three bullets on Sunday to match 2nd placed Healy Ryan’s DBSC/HHSC three wins on Saturday.  Third was up and coming Victorian sailors Casey Imeneo McCYC & SSCBC. Frances Beebe RQYS 4th and Sylvie Stannage HHSC 5th rounded out the cube winners. Singapore sailor Isaac Goh CSC SGP was first Under 19 and Healy Ryan won the first Under 17 cube.

There was a good fleet of 24 ILCA 4s showing great skill in some testing conditions with wind against tide generating some steep seas many would not have experienced before. Jago Tucker WSC dominated the fleet counting 5 wins. Jago is a star sailor from the WSC squad under Rob McMillan. 2nd was Zac Howell HHSC with Raphael McLachlan DBSC/RSYS and Isabella Taylor WSC completing the cube awards. Jago also won the first Under 18 and Zac won the Under 16 cube.

Thanks to our RO Andrew McLachlan for some fine officiating and judgement and the fabulous volunteers who help sailors with parking, sand and dolly management and on the water tasks in the lumpy conditions. Much appreciated.

Final results of State Championships 2024 are Here.

Racing Rules of Sailing Chat GPT

Chat GPT_350The RRS are very comprehensive and can be difficult to navigate let alone memorise.

Stuart Holdsworth has created a Chat GPT to help out sailors, race committees and protest committees. In this free AI driven rules sailing assistant you just ask it questions and give it scenarios and it gives an analysis of the relevant rules.

Its purpose is to educate sailors and help avoid unnecessary protests or disputes.

Many, even expert sailors have been blown away by it and it is now the first point of reference for many when facing rules based incidents.
