Together, these events create a structured pathway of competition from November 2026 through January 2027, allowing sailors to maximise travel value and race days.

As the host nation, Australia has been allocated additional places for this championship, with the final number depending on demand from other countries.

Australian applicants will be offered places in ranking order, based on results from the 2026 Australian Championships in Hobart, as outlined in our June 2025 ILCA Australia post.

Didn’t sail in Hobart? You can still apply! Sailors who didn’t compete at the 2026 Australian Championships will be ranked after those who did, in the order applications are received.

This is a once-in-a-career opportunity to race an Under-21 World Championship on home waters. Don’t miss it!

The majority of changes are clerical only with a few needing to be made to address rules that were either legacy provisions carried forward without revision or rules whose interpretation was unclear. This second group has been revised to reflect the class’s considered position to maintain current practices.

In short there in no intention to change the current class rules arrangements. You can see the changes in detail Here.

The rules changes need to voted as a job lot (Yes/No) by a simple majority of district members.

Applications for the 2027 ILCA Oceania Solidarity Program are now open.

With support from PSA and Australian Sailing one ILCA 4 female sailor (aged between 13 & 16 years on Jan 1st, 2027) from each Australian state, plus representatives from New Zealand and Pacific Island nations will receive free entry to the 2027 Oceania & Australian Open & Youth Championships 1-8 January at Sandringham Yacht Club. plus, a race-ready ILCA 4, a dedicated coach, and team gear. This is the fifth running of this program which since 2023 has seen 28 girls participate, fostering growth, friendships, and success, including international competition and positive community impact.

The Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club has run Sail Port Stephens  since 2008 with competitors growing from 25 then to over 300 across all fleets.

The Off the Beach section of the event caters for most classes including ILCAs.

Can’t promise as many sailors or as much wind as for our National Masters but SPS is a great event and venue

This event is for sailors up to age 20 in ILCA 4 and ILCA 6 and Open Skiff (ex Bic) class. A good roll up of sailors is expected to enjoy the fun and racing.

Podium finishers in the ILCA will take home trophies and PSA vouchers, and there’s a great fun element alongside the racing — a couple of adventure races including the now-legendary Bridge of Doom, where ILCA sailors team up and race on Open Skiffs. Holding 45 degrees through the Bridge is harder than it sounds!

The Metros were run on the Sound Sydney Harbour by Manly Yacht Club over the weekend 14-15 March. There were 80 boats competing with 30 staging from Manly YC and Little Manly Beach with the majority sailing over from harbour clubs MHASC, DBSC, WSC and VYC.

Saturday saw light conditions with the ESE to E wind never above 8 knots however it was stable enough in direction to allow RO Andrew McLachlan and the Manly YC team to get the three scheduled races run albeit after a long day on the race track and in transit.  Sunday presented perfect sailing conditions with 15-18 NE breeze all day. The harbour as always was quite lumpy with a moderate swell across the heads.

The Sound is the best sailing water on Sydney Harbour with enough room for our traditional trapezoid course and (just) enough room to allow a transit gap for power boats in and out of Middle Harbour. The regular Manly Ferries were very accommodating varying their route to avoid our fleets. An outbound Manly Fast Ferry actually stopped for 3 or 4 minutes to allow our largest fleet to round a mark unimpeded on Sunday a courtesy much appreciated by the sailors. Even the giant cruise ship Carnival Splendour transited the course on Saturday without incident.

There were three fleets in the event with 40 boats in the ILCA 6, 26 ICLA 7s and 14 ILCA 4s. In the ILCA 4s Under 16 promising HHSC sailor Ethan Wilkinson dominated counting four first and a second. Ruben Steel from RPAYC was second posting a win three seconds and a third with Amelia Thorne from GSC third and first girl.

The ILCA 6s were dominated by Sylvie Stannage HHSC/WSC who won every race. Second was GM Bruce Savage MHASC and third promising Under 17 sailor Zac Howell from HHSC.

The podium places were tightly shared around the top three in the ILCA 7s but Julian Taylor was too good and after dropping a 10th in race 3 he counted four wins and a second to take top spot from Finnish sailor now sailing at WSC Fredrik Westman and Alexander Bijkerk RPAYC/DBSC.

Thanks to Manly YC and their large enthusiastic team of volunteers who worked tirelessly with our RO Andrew McLachlan to deliver a great event for us at this iconic location. Special thanks to ILCA Captain Ian Saunders for setting up the arrangements for the event.

The Metros are on 14-15 March at Manly Yacht Club.

Manly YC are running this event for us on Manly Cove and the Sound so some of the best waters on Sydney Harbour.

It will be convenient for many to stage from other clubs around the harbour so for this event if you have entered online there will be no need to register at the club – just sign on and off online each day.

The club will be providing a BBQ and drinks on the Manly Yacht Club Deck after sailing on Saturday and Sunday. This will be free for all competitors. The presentation will be held at the Manly Yacht Club as soon as possible after racing on Sunday.
